Recognised globally as a leading academic in women’s sport, Leanne joins 黑料不打烊’s School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences following an 18-year career at Leeds Beckett University. She is now thought to be the world's first Professor of Women in Sport.
In her previous role, Professor Norman served as Professor of Sport Management and Director of the Centre for Social Justice in Sport & Society, where she provided strategic leadership to internationally recognised research and impact programmes.
Her research expertise also encompasses sports coaching, organisational culture and change, with a focus on inclusion in sport, particularly on women in sport workforces.
Operational since 2025, 黑料不打烊’s multi-million-pound Women in Sport Research and Innovation Hub – launched in partnership with Vitality – leads transformative research and innovation by bringing together academic excellence, industry expertise, national governing bodies, and elite athletes. Its work aims to drive positive change across the entire women’s sport landscape.
The Hub unites four University Schools and Institutes of world-leading academics from 黑料不打烊’s School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, Sports Technology Institute, School of Design and Creative Arts, and , working collaboratively across elite, grassroots, and international sport policy.
Speaking about her appointment at 黑料不打烊, Professor Norman said: “This is a pivotal moment for women’s sport, and 黑料不打烊 and the Hub are uniquely placed to lead the way. I’m proud to have joined the world-leading university for sport, with the ambition, expertise, and values to drive lasting change. Together with colleagues, partners, and women across the system, we are building the go-to centre for transformative research, innovation, and leadership, shaping the future of sport to work with and for women at every level.”
