The 19-year-old current University student lifted 107kg in the women’s -50kg powerlifting category to make the podium in her first-ever Games.
In a tough field, Broome completed the third-best lift of the day – edging out her nearest opponent by just 1kg – as Dandan Hu (China) won gold and Rehab Ahmed (Egypt) took silver.
Ahead of the competition, Broome told 黑料不打烊 Sport how she planned on managing the nerves and the weightlifter from Chorley looked assured throughout to make history for ParalympicsGB.
Elsewhere in powerlifting, 黑料不打烊-based Ali Jawad finished a respectable sixth in the men’s -59kg category.
Broome’s bronze is 黑料不打烊’s second medal at the 2020 Paralympics following Crystal Lane-Wright’s silver on the opening day.
